Riika Cuffs fascinate with their simple design. They fit women and men, can be worked in many colour variations or in one colour and are a great complement to the Riika Hat.

After the provisional cast on, the cuffs are worked in a classic rib pattern. The gusset for the thumb is shaped with right and left leaning increases and worked in purl stitch.

Difficulty ●●○○○, Size 1 (2) 3 (4), Hand circumference 15,5 (17) 18,5 (20) cm.

Riika Cuffs are designed to be worn with negative ease, as they widen when being worn and as they suit the hand. The hand circumference given here already takes this into account. So choose the size that comes closest to the circumference of your hand.

Tipp: I recommend working with a yarn with high elasticity that keeps its shape, e.g., a good, pure merino yarn. Merino wool has theability to expand but still keep its shape; hence your cuffs will fit „like a glove”.

Yarn:

Main colour 50 g Wollträume Molly (80 % wool, 20 % polyamide, meterage approx. 400 m / 100 g) and contrast colour small amount of same yarn,

or main colour 50 g Zitron Herbstwind (100 % wool – Tasmanian merino extra fine, 19 – 19,5 micron, meterage approx. 165 m / 50 g) and contrast colour small amount of same yarn,

or main colour 50 (50) 50 (100)  g Lana Grossa Cool Wool Big (100 % wool, (merino extra fine), meterage approx. 120 m / 50 g) and contrast colour small amount of same yarn. With this yarn, the cuffs will turn out more „voluminous“.

or 50 g Lana Grossa Merino Superiore (100 % wool, (merino extra fine),

meterage approx. 180 m / 50 g) and contrast colour small amount of same yarn. With this yarn, the cuffs will turn out less „voluminous“.

Recommended needles: Short circular needles 2,5 mm and 3,5 mm, crochet hook 2,5 mm.

You can work the cuffs with the Magic Loop method, on dpns or any other needle system of your choice. If working on dpns, divide the stitches evenly onto 4 needles.1st needle in instruction = 1st and 2nd needle, 2nd needle in instruction = 3rd and 4th needle.

Gauge: Knit a gauge swatch first and adjust the needle size if necessary. 10 x 10 cm = 24 sts x 36 rows, washed and blocked with needle 3,5 mm in rib, washed and blocked.

Supplies: Smooth scrap yarn (e.g. cotton) with same weight as working yarn, approx. 1 m long, possibly 1 cable needle, wool needle, measuring tape, scissors, stitch markers (1 marker in contrasting colour for round’s beginning).
