Riika Family Hat is worked in a classic rib pattern.
A wide brim keeps your ears twice as warm.
The pattern is wonderfully elastic and fits the head perfectly.
Riika hat suits women, men and children alike.
50 – 56 (57 – 61) cm.
Tip: I recommend to work with a yarn with high elasticity that keeps its shape, e.g., a good, pure merino yarn. Merino wool has the ability to expand but still keep its shape, hence your hat will fit „like a glove”.
Yarn: Main colour 50 (100) 100 (100) g Zitron Herbstwind (100 % wool- Tasmanian merino extra fine, 19 – 19,5 micron), meterage approx. 165 m / 50 g) and contrast colour B 50 g Zitron Herbstwind (100 % wool- Tasmanian merino extra fine 19 – 19,5 micron), meterage approx. 165 m / 50 g)
or main colour 100 g Wollträume Molly (80 % wool, 20 % polyamide, meterage approx. 400 m / 100 g) and contrast colour B 50 g Atelier Zitron High Twist (80 % wool (merino extra fine), 20 % polyamide, meterage approx. 200 m/ 50 g)
or main colour 50 (50) 50 (100) g Lana Grossa Cool Wool Big (100 % wool, (merino extra fine), meterage approx. 120 m / 50 g) and contrast colour B small amount Lana Grossa Cool Wool Big (100 % wool, (merino extra fine), meterage approx. 120 m / 50 g)
or main colour 50 (50) 50 (100) g Lana Grossa Ecopuno (72% cotton, 17 % wool (merino), 11 % alpaca (baby), meterage approx. 215 m / 50 g). If you work with this yarn, use half a needle size smaller as with a pure merino yarn, due to the lesser elasticity.
Recommended needles: Circular needles 2,5 mm and 3,5 mm, 40 cm long, crochet hook 2,5 mm.
Gauge: Knit a gauge swatch first and adjust the needle size if necessary.
10 x 10 cm = 24 sts x 36 rounds, washed and unblocked on a 3,5 mm needle in rib in rounds.
Supplies: 1 smooth scrap yarn (e.g. cotton) with same weight as working yarn, approx. 1,5 – 2 m long, possibly 1 cable needle, wool needle, measuring tape, scissors, stitch markers (1 marker in contrasting colour for round’s beginning).
