Piilo Blouse – Knitting Pattern (PDF)

The Piilo Blouse is a classic chunky-knit sweater with a round neckline, worked seamlessly in one piece from the top down. It is knitted in garter stitch in the round and can be worked either in a relaxed, slightly cropped boxy shape or in a more classic straight version with gentle waist shaping.

The neckband is worked in knit and purl stitches and shaped with short rows. This creates a slightly deeper neckline at the Front and gives the Back a little extra height. The raglan yoke creates a clean silhouette, while the long sleeves are shaped with distinctive decreases and finished with wide, statement cuffs.

The Piilo Blouse is worked seamlessly – no sewing required.

It is a versatile piece that can be styled casually with jeans or dressed up with wide linen trousers. The clean shape and simple stitch pattern allow the yarn to take centre stage. Soft, lightly textured yarns in calm, understated colours work particularly well.

The Piilo Blouse is also a lovely first larger project for knitters who would like to try a top-down raglan sweater.

The Piilo Blouse knitting pattern is ideal for anyone who loves timeless designs with a modern chunky-knit look – straightforward to knit, easy to style and comfortable to wear.

Suitable for ambitious beginners with some experience of top-down knitting.

FAQs

Who is the Piilo Blouse suitable for?

The difficulty level is ●●○○○. The Piilo Blouse is suitable for ambitious beginners who are comfortable knitting flat and in the round and have some experience with increases and short rows. All steps are explained in detail.

How is the Piilo Blouse constructed?

The Piilo Blouse is worked seamlessly from the top down.

After the neckband, the neckline is shaped with short rows. The raglan yoke is then worked in the round with increases along the raglan lines.

Once the yoke is complete, the sleeve stitches are placed on hold and the body is worked separately. The sleeves are finished afterwards in the round.

Which fit can I choose?

The Piilo Blouse can be worked in two different body shapes:

– a relaxed boxy version with a straight silhouette
– a more classic version with gentle decreases through the body

This allows you to choose the fit that best suits your style.

Which size should I knit?

Use the finished measurements of the blouse as your guide:

(89/98/104.5) (115.5/124.5/135.5) cm

Compare these measurements with a sweater you already own and like the fit of, and take your preferred amount of positive ease into account.

Can I adjust the body and sleeve length?

Yes. Because the Piilo Blouse is worked from the top down, both the body and sleeve lengths can easily be adjusted while knitting.

Please keep in mind that changing the length will also change the yarn requirements.

Which yarns are suitable for the Piilo Blouse?

The Piilo Blouse can be worked with several different yarns and yarn combinations, for example:

– DROPS Air, held single
– Sandnes Sunday held together with Tynn Silk Mohair
– DROPS Baby Merino held together with DROPS Kid-Silk
– ISAGER Soft, held single

The most important factor is achieving the stated gauge of 18 sts × 30 rows/rnds = 10 × 10 cm in garter stitch.

Can I knit the Piilo Blouse without mohair?

Yes. The Piilo Blouse can also be knitted without mohair.

For example, DROPS Air or ISAGER Soft can be used as single-strand options. The look and feel of the finished blouse will vary depending on the yarn, but the fit remains the same as long as the stated gauge is achieved.

What makes the Piilo Blouse special?

The Piilo Blouse combines a clean silhouette with the lively texture of garter stitch.

Characteristic details include:

– seamless top-down construction
– round neckline shaped with short rows
– raglan yoke
– choice of boxy or classic body shape
– long sleeves with distinctive decreases
– wide ribbed cuffs and hem
– adjustable body and sleeve lengths

Can I use a different yarn?

Yes. You can use another yarn or yarn combination as long as you achieve the stated gauge.

Adjust the yarn requirements according to the yardage of your chosen yarn and always make a washed and blocked gauge swatch before starting.
