FAQs
Who is the Piilo Shirt suitable for?
Difficulty is ●●○○○ (easy to intermediate). The pattern is great for knitters with basic experience knitting flat and in the round. Step-by-step instructions, lots of photos and a size checklist table guide you through the whole project.
How is the Piilo Shirt knitted?
The Piilo Shirt is worked seamlessly top down. The yoke is knit in the round with raglan increases, then body and sleeves are separated and worked in the round.
What does “garter stitch” mean for this shirt?
The shirt is worked in garter stitch, which creates a clean, lightly textured surface and makes it ideal for layering. Garter stitch usually uses a little more yarn than stockinette.
Note about garter stitch in the round:
To achieve garter stitch when working in the round, knit one round and purl the next round, alternating throughout.
Are there different fit options?
Yes. You can choose between two body versions:
-
classic, lightly shaped
-
loose, boxy fit
Can I knit it solid or striped?
Yes. You can knit the Piilo Shirt solid, with stripes, bold colour blocks, or using a fading technique – it’s perfect for colour play.
Which size should I knit?
The pattern includes 6 sizes: 1 (2) 3 (4) 5 (6) with finished chest circumference 82 (90) 98 (106) 116 (124) cm. Choose your size based on your preferred fit (classic or boxy) and the amount of ease you want.
Can I adjust the length?
Yes. Because it is worked top down, you can easily adjust body length (and sleeve length if desired). Note: extra length increases yarn usage.
How is the neckline worked?
The round neckline is finished with a neckband that is shaped with German short rows for a comfortable fit.
How are the sleeves worked?
The sleeves are knit in the round and finish with bold, wide cuffs. The short sleeves are a clear design detail and give the shirt structure.
Do I need to wash the gauge swatch?
Yes. Gauge is given washed and blocked:
10 × 10 cm garter stitch = 20 sts × 32 rows with 3.5 mm needles. This is essential for fit and sizing.
Can I use different yarn?
Yes. The pattern includes several yarn suggestions and a list of substitute yarns. The key is to match garter stitch gauge and choose a yarn that suits the season you want (summer/winter/in-between).
