Beschreibung

The Riika Shirt is a timeless basic in a 2×2 rib pattern with a clean silhouette and a fit that has proven itself. The sleeves are cut slim, while the body has comfortable ease: Riika sits close to the body without feeling tight. The rib pattern gives the shirt a calm yet lively look – an easy-to-wear piece that combines well and will stay in your wardrobe for a long time.

It is worked seamlessly from the top down with raglan increases in rib. The raglan lines are shaped with left-leaning and right-leaning increases. After the yoke, the sleeve stitches are placed on hold and the body is worked in the round. The sleeves are then picked up again and also worked in the round.

Riika is unisex and can be knitted as a longsleeve, with three-quarter sleeves, or with short sleeves. Thanks to the top-down construction, all lengths can easily be adjusted to your own measurements. Riika is part of the Riika Collection – a series of clear, easy-to-wear basics with a quiet design language and thoughtful details.

Details

All yarn quantities are calculated for the short-sleeved version. If you make the sleeves longer, for example three-quarter sleeves or a longsleeve, please allow for additional yarn depending on the size.

The pattern describes the solid-color version, and the yarn quantities given also refer to this version.

For a striped shirt, the total yarn requirement is divided between the individual colors.

With evenly spaced stripes of equal width, you can estimate about half of the total amount for each color when using 2 colors, about one third for each color when using 3 colors, and about one quarter for each color when using 4 colors.

If one color is also used for the cuffs or neckline, plan a little extra for that color.

FAQs

Who is the Riika Shirt suitable for?

The difficulty level is ●●○○○. Riika is very manageable for ambitious beginners if you are confident knitting in the round and flat and know how to work increases. The rib pattern is regular and easy to memorize.

How is the Riika Shirt constructed?

Riika is worked seamlessly from the top down. You begin with the yoke and work raglan increases in the 2×2 rib pattern, then place the sleeves on hold and knit the body in the round. After that, the sleeves are picked up again and also worked in the round.

Can I knit Riika with short sleeves or three-quarter sleeves?

Yes. Riika can be made as a longsleeve, with three-quarter sleeves, or with short sleeves. Thanks to the top-down construction, the lengths are easy to adjust.

Which size should I knit?

Use the finished chest circumference as your guide:

96.5 (100/106.5/110) (116.5/126.5/133.5) cm.

The body has comfortable ease, while the sleeves are slimmer. If you are between sizes, your preferred fit will decide: closer fit = smaller size, looser fit = larger size.

Is Riika unisex?

Yes. The shape is clean and straight and can be adapted very well to different body shapes depending on size and length.

How important is the gauge swatch?

Very important. The gauge is given washed and blocked. It is given in stockinette stitch because that makes it easier to count accurately:

10 x 10 cm = 24 sts x 32 rows/rounds.

Knit your swatch, wash it, and measure it afterwards – that is essential for getting the right fit.

Why is the gauge given in stockinette stitch even though the shirt is worked in rib?

Because stockinette stitch is much easier and more accurate to count. That helps especially when checking your needle size. It is still important to wash, block and measure your swatch carefully.

Can I use a different yarn?

Yes. The important thing is that you achieve the correct gauge. If you use a yarn with a different yardage, use the meterage as your guide.

What kind of yarn works particularly well for Riika?

Riika works well in different yarn qualities – from soft cotton blends to more structured wool yarns. Depending on the yarn, the rib pattern will look more crisp and defined or softer and more fluid.
