Vinnje Collar – neck and body warmer in half brioche stitch
If a chunky scarf feels like too much and a sweater is too warm, the Vinnje Collar is your solution.
It warms your neck, shoulders and upper back, while leaving your arms completely free to move – whether you wear it under a coat, over a dress or with your favourite T-shirt.
You can work the Vinnje Collar as a compact neck warmer or knit it longer so that it almost takes on the role of a slipover. With two collar options – stand-up collar or roll neck – and the option to add I-cord ties, you can adapt it perfectly to your own style.
The textured half brioche pattern makes the Vinnje Collar special:
It is fully reversible – you can wear it with the “bumpy” side or the classic half brioche structure facing out.
Skill level

Fit
Regular fit, length adjustable.
Sizes
1 (2) 3
Shoulder width approx. 33 (37) 41 cm / 13 (14½) 16 in
Length: adjustable
Construction
The collar is worked in the round first.
Then the work is divided into front and back and continued flat in rows.
The shoulders are shaped with double increases leaning to the right and to the left – they give the Vinnje Collar its distinctive, modern shoulder line.
To keep everything nicely elastic and well-fitting, you start with a highly elastic cast-on.
The half brioche pattern tends to “open up” a little in length and width after washing. Keep this in mind while knitting and measure your gauge on a washed and dried swatch.
Variations
You can knit the Vinnje Collar in several different ways:
Variation 1 – Stand-up collar
Classic, close-fitting collar that sits snugly around the neck.
Variation 2 – Roll neck
Worked a little longer and folded over – perfect if you like it extra soft and warm around your neck.
Variation 3 – Stand-up collar with ties
With I-cord ties you can close in front – practical when you wear the collar under jackets or coats.
You can play with stripes, work the fold-over edge in a contrast colour or use leftovers from your yarn basket – every Vinnje Collar becomes a one-of-a-kind piece.

FAQs
1. What skills do I need for the Vinnje Collar?
You should be comfortable knitting in the round and back and forth, working knit and purl stitches and simple increases. The half brioche stitch is explained step by step in the pattern.
2. How do I choose the right size?
Choose your size based on your shoulder width. The pattern gives finished measurements and is written for a regular fit. If you are between sizes, you can decide whether you prefer it a little closer or a bit more relaxed.
3. Can I adjust the length or collar style?
Yes. The length of the body is fully adjustable, and the pattern includes all three options: stand-up collar, roll neck and stand-up collar with I-cord ties. You simply knit to your preferred length.
4. Which yarns can I use?
The pattern is written for aran / heavy worsted weight yarns. You can use any yarn that matches the given gauge. In the pattern and on the product page you’ll find several yarn suggestions with yardage and character.
5. How important is gauge in half brioche?
Gauge is essential for a well-fitting collar. Half brioche tends to open up after washing, so always measure your swatch in the washed and dried state and adjust your needle size if needed.
6. How do I receive the pattern and where can I ask questions?
You receive a digital PDF for download after payment in your customer account and via e-mail – there is no printed pattern. General questions and exchange about my patterns are welcome in my Facebook group. Individual size adjustments, yarn calculations or personal knitting advice are a separate, paid service and are not included in the pattern price.
